The story tells of a rat-man scout exploring the dark dungeons of a harsh world that has seen its own end. These lands were once ruled by powerful mages, but they were destroyed by an older and more powerful force. Mages didn’t worry much about what would happen to their artificially created homunculus and various creature-servants. Abandoned, these creatures took their fate into their own hands and try to survive in the world left to them. In the game there are different ways to achieve the goals. If you have a locked door in front of you, there are usually several ways to solve it. For example, you can pick a lock or ask a guard for a key or find a way around. You can read the notes and immerse yourself in the history of the world to explore locations and find the best way or just slash and burn everything in your way. The game will lead you to a single ending, play as you like.

This game is already a a step up from the original in most categories especially the combat. One area I do think they let slide was the voice over area. This game could definitely use voice acting. Would bring the story to life. I do like the exploration aspect. Just wish there was more to find in some nooks. Maybe there is? I haven’t gotten too far but am intrigued to play more. Thumb up as I want to see more indie RPGs succeed. It definitely evokes the feeling of “wait huh?” I got when I first played Arx Fatalis, which is kinda what I’m here for. Some of the translation is stilted, which is, again, expected. I get that this would probably turn some players off entirely, but I’m here to wade through to swampy junk to get the good. My big critique is, with a game that has a bit of a stilted translation, with a love of text, I almost NEED a quest log of some kind. I didn’t see a keybind for it, and the little Morrowind style “press a buttom for every window to open” doesn’t have a log in it. I feel like I could easily get past ANY other issues with a quest log.
