The premise and prepare for things to get meta in a hurry sets the tone pretty well. You’re you, as in you. Look down. There you are. You’re playing a game called Consortium, but not really. Instead, it’s a connection to another universe in the not-too-distant future, where graphics are a little dodgy and nobody notices colleagues strafing around as if controlled by WASD keys, created specifically for you to temporarily take over the body of a man called Bishop 6 troubleshooter for a huge floating plane/command center called Zenlil. Got that? Think Quantum Leap, with far more quantum physics, and not just restricted to the intro as a goofy little flourish, but regularly referred to and important. The real adventure, though, is unsurprisingly easier to get a grip on; helping Bishop 6 survive the worst day of the Zenlil crew’s lives. It seems quiet to begin with. It’s actually a 24-style gauntlet of everything from enemy sieges to a traitor on board, with your job as Weirdo In Chief being to sort the problems out one by one. How you do this is up to you, from going into its combat situations guns blazing and leaving a trail of corpses, to avoiding a fight by winning over crew and enemies alike with charisma and good calls. There’s no wrong way to play, merely choices to make, with secrets and story details that can only come to light during repeat playthroughs (which are also justified by the fiction, though only in passing).
