Inspired by survival horror games of the last decade, The Hotel follows the story of Alex and Judie, as fate leads them to a dark and forgotten hotel while on vacation. It’s not long before they are plunged into terror and encounter zombies and other creatures. In order to survive, they must solve a series of puzzles, find hints, and grab all the weapons and ammo they can find. Will they be able to escape? Only you can decide. The main game takes place in an hotel that has almost 90 different rooms to explore and secrets to find. You’ll need to solve puzzle to progress through the story. Some are easy, while others are more tricky. Your ammo reserves will be limited, so you’ll need to play smart in order to stay alive and escape.

There’s a fantastic decision to introduce our arch enemies at the very start of the game, then keep them ‘alive’ in the player’s mind through some methods ripped right out of Manhunt. Are the villains tastefully rendered, with depth and humanity and contradiction? Heck no, but they’re weird and vivid and… they don’t make a ton of sense, but they’re a lot of fun to chase after. More common enemies include a variety of zombified creeps who prove a little frustrating to fight or avoid. Thankfully, you get enough ammunition to clear out a few corridors… which, sadly, will be required. Unlike Resident Evil Remake, the Hotel has only a few loops, seeming to focus mostly on spurs which are rarely repopulated. This means the experience can often start to feel a little linear, and so instead of trying to dodge your foes, you’ll often find yourself soaking attacks from goons as you wipe them all out with a knife, then healing later.
