The family was ready to visit the amusement park, but plans are cancelled due to weather. This is a story about an ordinary family spending time at home during the rain. “Rainy Season” is a narrative game that is playable to finish in less than 1 hour. Interact with objects Touch and interact with items within house to learn about them.  This isn’t so much of a game as it is a sweet, wistful experience of reliving a childhood memory of a Japanese boy spending time at home on a cozy rainy day. You get to explore your snug little house, engage in nice and mellow conversations with your family, and discover some cute items associated with pleasant memories and daydreams while indulging in a chill, calming ambience. Essentially, it’s a very short and simple story with an emphasis on the atmosphere which brought me a feeling of comfort, relaxation, and nostalgia with a slight touch of melancholy, taking me back to the good old days of looking at the world through the eyes of a carefree child. The only downside for me was clunky interaction/controls, but nothing to spoil my overall impression of this lovely game.

I have been following the development of this game for a while, and I’m so glad that I did. Although this game is short. During the time that you spend playing, you are sucked in fully. I loved how daydreams were used as a sort of collectable and it felt very fitting to the player character. I think that the most important achievement, which is what most drew me to this game, is how it manages to be an experience rather than what would be classically thought of as a game. You come out of playing it, relaxed and calm. I hope that this game bring peoples attention to the value of this genre, as it is one which i feel is not explored nearly enough and has possible tangible benefits to people in the real world. In summery: I love this game because it is relaxing, atmospheric and charming. But I recommend it because it took a step in showing gamers another way to look at games. The whole experience is simple and clean except for one part: interaction. Some doors just don’t move the way you’d like. Some objects just can’t be picked up easily. Some object isn’t marked as interactable but is, while some object is marked as interactable but I can’t find a proper angle and position to trigger it. Also the controller support is broken for some reason, I’m using a Xbox One controller and cannot interact with anything. For what it’s worth, a small experience like this needs it’s controls and interactions to be as smooth as possible. I don’t mind bugs and all, it’s a one-man’s effort after all. But for a game of this size, the level of polish might not be bearable for many.
